Canaan Parish Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

A Ribbon Cutting ceremony was held for the new Canaan Parish affordable housing community in New Canaan, CT, on July 25th. In attendance was Governor Ned Lamont, local officials including First Selectman Kevin Moynihan, Scott Hobbs, chairman of the Housing Authority of New Canaan, and members of the General Assembly. Governor Lamont praised the subsidized and affordable units in New Canaan that replaced a dilapidated nearly 50-year-old complex. “This is beautiful housing,” Lamont said during the 50-minute program. “I’d like to think that we’re just getting started.”

Chris Hussey, who has served on the New Canaan Neighborhoods, Inc. board for decades, was honored with a dedication of the playground in her name and cut the ceremonial red ribbon. Chris said, “Looking at this amazing property, nobody would believe that it is Section 8 and affordable housing. It is a beautiful complex with outstanding landscaping including a generous playground, basketball court and community garden. We have provided homes for 100 families. I am especially pleased that the residents, especially the children will be proud to bring guests to their new, bright and welcoming homes.”
