Amenta Emma has received an AIA National Design for Aging Review Award in the Small Projects Category for the Jefferson House Hitchcock Wing Renovation project. Our team transformed a dark, outdated long-term care facility into a warm, inviting environment promoting health and well-being. Spanning 5,500 sf, the design emphasizes biophilic principles with wood finishes, abundant natural light, and clear wayfinding. Thoughtful material choices, improved lighting, and enhanced circulation create an inclusive, uplifting space for seniors with diverse needs. The award was presented to our Community Studio team members at the Honors Gala held in Boston during the annual AIA Conference & Expo.
The 2025 Design for Aging Review, presented by the AIA Design for Aging Knowledge Community, exemplifies how architects and their teams are designing innovative solutions that improve the quality of life for older adults within specific project constraints. Read more about the awards here.
