The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) has awarded a $3,294,527 Brownfields grant to the Meadow Gardens redevelopment project in Norwalk, CT. The grant, announced by Governor Ned Lamont at a press conference will fund the demolition and abatement of existing structures on the site, paving the way for a transformative new development.
Amenta Emma is proud to be at the forefront of this significant project, which will revitalize the area at 45 Meadow Street. Our design envisions affordable townhouse-style residences that seamlessly integrate into the challenging, steeply sloping site. This redevelopment aims to enhance the connection between Meadow Gardens and the surrounding neighborhood, fostering a cohesive community environment.
Sustainability and equity are at the core of our design philosophy for Meadow Gardens. Key features of the project include:
- Passive House Design: Ensuring energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
- Solar Energy Integration: Promoting renewable energy use and sustainability.
- Strong Connection to Nature: Creating green spaces and natural areas for residents to enjoy.
- Private Exterior Entrances: Offering a sense of ownership and privacy for each household.
- Accessible Pathways: Ensuring all areas of the site are easily navigable for residents of all abilities.
Governor Lamont, who attended the press conference to announce this award, emphasized the importance of this project for the local community and the state’s ongoing efforts to remediate and repurpose brownfield sites.
Amenta Emma Principal-In-Charge, Myles Brown, AIA, says, “The Meadow Gardens redevelopment project is a prime example of how we can turn underutilized areas into thriving, sustainable communities. This grant will not only help to clean up the site but also to create affordable housing that is vital for the growth and prosperity of Norwalk.”
