Blue Back Square is a 550,000 sf mixed-use development located in the heart of historic West Hartford, Connecticut. This 150,000,000 dollar urban space is designed to complement the town’s character, fitting nicely into the principles of New Urbanism. The program included 100 residential lofts; 240,000 sf of fine retail space and 100,000 sf of Class A office space in seven new mixed-use buildings. Of particular interest was that each retail storefront was to be uniquely designed. The result is a very organic streetscape, appearing as if it had been designed over decades. For this project, Amenta Emma provided tenant coordination, design and planning and review services to the landlord. In this role we were the architect for over forty unique retail stores and over 30,000 sf of commercial space, while overseeing all of the Landlord’s physical leasing considerations.
During the various design and construction phases at Blue Back, I was consistently impressed by Amenta Emma’s level of responsiveness. They are always available to address a wide variety of issues, and they provide an added value unique to architectural firms; they understand the concerns of prospective tenants and provide solutions.
