Robert Swain is the Principal-in-Charge in Amenta Emma’s Academic Studio where he focuses on the programming, planning and architectural development of higher education and secondary school projects. He is also responsible for the firm’s financial management.
Since joining the firm in 1996, Robert has amassed extensive experience in significant academic and student life buildings for multiple private and public campuses throughout the Northeast. He is committed to building community and reinforcing a sense of place in every campus project he undertakes.
“Being a part of the design of a physical environment that has the potential to positively influence a person’s daily experience inspires me,” Robert says. “Architecture can be uplifting and transformative in small and big ways. It is this public and individual connection with architecture that most excites me.”
Robert received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Catholic University of America. He is an active member of the Society for College and University Planning and has presented at several conferences and related professional events. Robert currently serves as President of the Connecticut Architecture Foundation, is an active committee member and former chair with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Hartford and involved with architecture outreach programs in K-12 schools.
