Summer Intern Group Research Project on Housing for the Missing Middle

This summer marked a first for interns at Amenta Emma – a group research project based in one of our studios. We chose our Community studio and focused on the missing middle housing typologies. The group spent several weeks researching the “American Dream”, diving deep into its history, economics, and current and future housing trends in our country. After concluding their research, the team set about to develop a hypothetical site that would provide the housing types, variety, and amenities identified to best fit the needs of the community. Site selection was focused on three MBTA communities, all within close proximity to the commuter rail, with the team eventually landing on a TOD site in Andover MA. This past week marked the end of the project, culminating in presentations to both our Boston and Hartford offices.

We want to thank our three interns, Ritika Iyer, Faith Kosior and Jiaqi Ruan, for their efforts over the last few months. The content they produced was informative and inspiring. We will be sharing all of their research and design work later this year.
