The Windsor Locks Planning and Zoning Commission recently approved the redevelopment of 255 Main Street, marking a major milestone for the town’s revitalization efforts. Designed by Amenta Emma Architects and led by Trinity Financial, this $92 million transit-oriented development (TOD) will bring 120 mixed-income housing units and 4,000 square feet of commercial space to the north end of Main Street.
Located adjacent to the town’s new $65-million train station, the project is set to drive economic activity and transform the area into a vibrant, accessible hub for residents and visitors. The Windsor Locks Journal recently broke the news of the plan’s approval in its Nov. 25 edition, quoting project architect Eric Weyant.
“Our design for the Windsor Locks TOD project emphasizes a seamless blend of contemporary architecture with the town’s historic character, creating a dynamic and welcoming space for residents and visitors,” said Eric, design principal at Amenta Emma. “With a focus on walkability and connectivity, the project aims to foster a sense of community while complementing the nearby train station, helping to stitch back together the town fabric disrupted by urban renewal.”
In addition to revitalizing Windsor Locks’ historic Main Street corridor, the project tackles the environmental challenges of a complex brownfield site, ensuring its readiness for future development. This TOD represents not only a transformative investment in Windsor Locks but also a commitment to preserving its past while building a dynamic future.
Stay tuned for more on this exciting project.
